Effects of physical activity on the prevention of chronic degenerative diseases in Tabasco

Authors

Abstract

The present research aims to analyze the effects of physical activity and sports in the prevention and management of chronic degenerative diseases (such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension) in the population of Tabasco. The study adopts a mixed approach, gathering both quantitative and qualitative data to obtain a more accurate understanding of the effects. Furthermore, the research design used is concurrent triangulation (DITRIAC). An intentional non-probabilistic sampling method was employed to select the participants. Efforts were made to include individuals of different ages (including the elderly), genders, and health conditions in order to capture the diversity of the Tabasco population engaged in physical activity and sports at the Sports City.  Quantitative data collection was   conducted through a structured questionnaire to gather information on the frequency, duration, and types of activities performed, as well as participants' demographic data. For the qualitative method, in-depth semi-structured interviews were carried out to explore their personal experiences, perceived benefits, barriers and challenges, recommendations, and perspectives regarding the relationship between physical activity and chronic diseases. The research findings show that elderly individuals with chronic degenerative diseases choose to engage in some form of physical activity or sports because they have experienced significant improvements in their health, even without receiving any professional guidance.
