Social approach to science and technology in stomatology

Abstract

Science and technology are social processes and their operation and development is unthinkable outside of the social context that surrounds and conditions them. Stomatology is a precision science that nowadays is advancing towards a stage of specialization. The innovation of dental equipment advances and it’s displacing some functions that were carried out by stomatologists, that’s why some people consider the future of this profession is technological innovation. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of science and technology from a social approach in Stomatology. From the qualitative methodology, it is a theoretical study that assumes the general research methods. As a technique, the content analysis of the documents was used. It was analyzed that the accelerated process of the technification of dental practice should not replace the accumulated practical experience of the stomatologists, the values and qualities that characterize the humanist essence of the profession. It was concluded that the development of Stomatology requires the use of technology that complements the clinic and it is in correspondence with the economic, political and social environment that allows optimizing the results in terms of oral health and improving the quality of life of patients.
