Factors affecting collective leadership in the rural cooperative sector

Authors

Abstract

Collective leadership involves an active distribution and participation of leadership among all members of a team or group, rather than relying solely on an individual leader. It is based on collaboration, communication and shared decision making to achieve goals and achieve organizational success. Lack of clarity in leadership roles, as well as differences in opinions on management in the cooperative sector, represent obstacles to improving efficiency and productivity. The objective of this research was aimed at identifying the factors that affect the strengthening of collective leadership in rural associations and cooperatives. The application of the Kendall method allowed 8 factors to be identified. One of the main cultural barriers to developing collective leadership is resistance to change, which arises as a result of tradition embedded in the culture of a community. The culture of the cooperative, including its shared values, norms and beliefs, influences the way collective leadership is practiced. Effective communication skills also influence shared decision making and collaborative conflict resolution. This involves promoting training and personal development. These barriers, both objective and subjective, interact with each other to undermine collective leadership within rural cooperatives. Recognition and understanding of these factors are essential to foster successful and sustainable collective leadership in these types of organizations.
