Archival dissemination and communication to promote culture and defend identity from universities
Abstract
The current crisis of civilization requires higher education institutions to adopt new ways of thinking and acting in defense of their own identity and culture, as well as that of the nation to which they belong. In this sense, communication, a process that cuts across all aspects of university management, plays an essential role. This study is derived from doctoral research on the communication of the documentary heritage of university historical archives. Based on documentary analysis, the objective of this work is to establish the necessary link between the communication process, archival dissemination, and the promotion of culture as an extension subprocess, whose synergy favors the enjoyment and preservation of the documentary heritage held by these information centers. The results show a systematization that ranges from promoting university culture to stimulate cultural flow within and outside the university, which includes bringing the documentary heritage of university historical archives closer to the university community and society through archival dissemination, in close relation to communication, as a strategic process that cuts across management in institutions. The conclusion is reached that the interrelation of these three factors in higher education constitutes a key basis for planning the communication of documentary heritage in AHU and thereby educating in the care, safeguarding, recognition, and enjoyment of heritage assets. Consequently, actions are generated to guarantee the present and future legacy of nations from universities.
