Approach to the historical synthesis of the tulip quarter
Abstract
The research focuses on the study of the Tulipán neighborhood in Cienfuegos, Cuba, highlighting its importance in the understanding of the historical and social dynamics of the city. The methodology employed was qualitative, using the ethnographic method. Theoretical methods such as the historical-logical and the analytical-synthetic were applied, which allowed the authors to synthesize and present the results after analyzing various sources. Data collection techniques included participant observation, unstructured interviews with local historians and specialists, as well as residents of the neighborhood. In addition, historical documents, socio-cultural diagnoses, maps, plans, photographs and articles from the Bishopric were reviewed. The results highlighted the lack of historical documentation on the neighborhood, despite its rich history and evolution. The interviews revealed significant details about the community life, social and cultural transformations of the neighborhood. The study also underscored the importance of neighborhoods as fundamental units for understanding urban history and sustainable planning. The main findings emphasize that neighborhoods are more than physical spaces; they are entities loaded with cultural, social and historical meanings that shape the collective identity of their inhabitants. Recognizing these dimensions is crucial to understanding how communities relate to their physical surroundings and how they construct.
