Management of the integration of substantive university processes at UNIANDES.
Abstract
The study analyzed the management of the integration of substantive university processes at the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes (UNIANDES), evaluating its effectiveness based on the pillars of university management: planning, organization, direction-control, and continuous improvement. The objective was to identify strengths and weaknesses in the implementation of these processes and to propose tools to optimize their integration. A qualitative and descriptive approach was adopted, incorporating a systematic review of scientific literature, semi-structured interviews with managers, and surveys of university faculty and students. Through methodological triangulation, the study examined how universities manage these processes and their alignment with national and international regulations. The findings highlighted that strategic and operational planning partially contributes to the integration objectives. However, the institutional mission and vision do not explicitly include this approach. Additionally, weaknesses were identified in the organizational structure and in the prioritization of teaching over research and outreach activities. Moreover, the lack of clear performance standards hinders continuous improvement. The study emphasized the need to redefine policies and strategies to integrate substantive processes as a fundamental part of the institutional mission. It also recommended fostering an organizational culture that embraces a comprehensive management model, establishing clear evaluation standards, and strengthening institutional leadership to enhance process integration effectively.
