Influence of socio-emotional skills on the academic performance of students in upper middle school

Abstract

Social-emotional skills (SEL) are essential for the development and adaptation of all individuals within their social environment. In recent years, the need to focus on these skills as a fundamental aspect of human beings has become increasingly apparent in various areas, especially in education.The objective of this research is to analyze how social-emotional skills influence the academic performance of high school students. This includes identifying the specific social-emotional skills that students require at this level, analyzing the positive and negative impacts of developing these skills in the classroom, and examining the academic performance of students who only receive instruction in the classroom.This research also examines the impact of developing these skills in the classroom. This paper details the concept and importance of socio-emotional skills, factors that influence learning processes, and characteristics of upper secondary school students, such as their educational and family environments, among others. The paper also employs a qualitative paradigm and a descriptive methodology with a documentary approach. Finally, it presents recommendations and conclusions that highlight relevant points and answer the research question, demonstrating the importance of this topic today as part of student development at a level where any situation can be the key factor enabling them to achieve the expected success in their personal and professional lives.
