Study on the policy of managing foreigners in China: review and analysis of the literature
Abstract
The sustained growth of the foreign population in China has prompted a gradual adaptation of the institutional mechanisms designed for its management. Over time, these mechanisms have expanded and diversified, incorporating administrative, labor-related, and social dimensions. Chinese scholars have examined this process from various analytical perspectives, producing both normative analyses and locally focused empirical studies. However, the fragmentation of research approaches and the limited attention paid to the concrete effects of these policies highlight the need for a more integrated perspective. Through a systematic review of the existing literature, this study organizes the main scholarly contributions and synthesizes their predominant analytical lines, with the aim of providing a solid foundation for future research on the operation and improvement of foreigner management in China.
