Behavior of postural deformities and joint mobility in older adults with ankylosing spondylitis
Abstract
Ankylosing spondylitis significantly impacts the quality of life of those who suffer from it, especially older adults. This chronic inflammatory condition, primarily focused on the spine and sacroiliac joint, causes postural deterioration in those who suffer from it. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the behavior of postural deformities and joint mobility in older adults with ankylosing spondylitis in Cienfuegos. The methodology employed was a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive cross-sectional design. A structured survey, observation, and measurement were used to collect data on postural deformities and joint mobility. The population consisted of three older adults, male, with an average age of 62 years, all of white race, who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that the older adults in the study had deficiencies in posture and joint mobility, with the most affected joints being the spine, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.
