Rafael Lay Apesteguía, artífice de la sonoridad Aragón.

Resumen

La orquesta Aragón con más de 82 años de fundada, es una institución musical cubana que exhibe,-entre muchos aspectos que la caracterizan-, una singular historia marcada por el artífice de su sonoridad: Rafael Lay Apesteguía. En este año 2022, no sólo se cumple el 95 aniversario de su nacimiento, sino el 40 de su fallecimiento. Dignificar su legado es de los objetivos que se propone este trabajo. Lay asume la dirección de la Orquesta en 1948, a los veintiún años, y, como todo gran director, llevaba en su interior una sensibilidad y una musicalidad propia. Quizás, con más justicia, podría definirse la sonoridad Aragón como sonoridad Lay. Educó a sus músicos; los llevó al sonido y a la rítmica que él buscaba. Logró que La Aragón tuviera un estilo propio, caracterizado por lo que cada uno de sus músicos sabía colocarle a su instrumento para integrarlo al conjunto. De este modo surgía en la orquesta una interpretación que, desde las primeras notas, la identificaba y la diferenciaba.Sus composiciones, su guía certera y la nobleza que inspiraba su alma, lo hicieron ser un líder único; ello dio permanencia a la Orquesta y a sus músicos dentro de la misma.

ABSTRACT

The Aragón Orchestra, founded more than 82 years ago, is a Cuban musical institution that exhibits, among many aspects that characterize it, a singular history marked by the artificer of its sonority: Rafael Lay Apesteguía. The year 2022 is not only the 95th anniversary of his birth, but also the 40th anniversary of his death. Dignifying his legacy is one of the objectives of this work. Lay assumed the direction of the Orchestra in 1948, at the age of twenty-one, and, like all great conductors, he carried within him a sensitivity and musicality of his own. Perhaps, with more justice, the Aragón sonority could be defined as Lay's sonority. He educated his musicians; he led them to the sound and rhythm he was looking for. He achieved that La Aragón had its own style, characterized by what each one of his musicians knew waht to put in his instrument to blend it with the ensemble. His compositions, his accurate guidance and the nobility that inspired his soul made him a unique leader; this gave permanence to the orchestra and its musicians within it.
