Feminist representation and iconographic and social significance in the artistic work of Belkis Ayón
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to make an assessment of the iconographic and social significance of Belkis Ayón's artistic work from the feminist representation -that which exhibits the stereotypes of the female body and Afro-Cuban religiosity-. For its content, a brief exploration of feminist art and its social impact was carried out, in addition to the evaluation of the works of some of its main exponents. The results allowed the identification of value nuclei such as: Feminism as a worldwide movement for women's liberation, its stereotypes in feminist art, and the challenges of women artists in the face of the modern world. We highlight Ayón's work, from a productive discourse of the visual arts.
