Aerobic exercises with music to improve leg strength in older adults

Authors

Abstract

This research addresses the process of addressing the physical strength capacity of older adults at the Amor y Esperanza Grandparents' Circle in the historic center of Cienfuegos province. The examination of reality revealed difficulties in performing exercises from a standing position and moving short distances. An explanatory study is assumed for the research, based on a pre-experimental, pre-test, and post-test design for a single group. The sample is composed of a total of 10 older female adults from the aforementioned circle. Theoretical and empirical methods such as document analysis, surveys, and measurements were used throughout the research. The SPSS 22.0 statistical package was also used as a statistical technique. The internationally standardized Rikli & Jones (1999) functional fitness test was administered at two stages, based on the results of the 30-s Sit-to-Rise from a Chair test from the Senior Fitness Test (SFT) battery. Their contribution lies in the practical application of the aerobic exercise program with music proposed by Maya (2023), with a special focus on improving leg strength in older adults. The results obtained demonstrate significant changes in the test selected for the study to assess lower body strength in older adults.
